It all started with the wedding cake.
The wedding cake. The big whammy. The hopefully once in a lifetime only wedding cake you will probably have in your whole life. And the wedding cake that I volunteered to make. Everything was going great. The small two tiered cake stood firmly, surrounded by over 80 piped cupcakes adorned with all types of different toppings. All of the cupcakes were lined in neat rows in their cupcake boxes and put in the freezer overnight. It turns out freezer space is often limited and we had just enough room to squeeze in all of the cupcakes. We figured- ah, it’s June- what could happen to a buttercream frosting cake overnight? It’ll be fine! Just fine!
Early the next morning, on the day of the big wedding. I wake up to a knock on the door. It’s the sound of Ted, my step dad tentatively saying “umm…you may want to check on your cake…It kinda looks like the leaning tower of pisa.” I rushed down the stairs and flew into the kitchen where my beloved cake sat- sagging to the side. Like the cake, all of my thoughts of a having a nice relaxing morning of the wedding crumbled in front of me. I rushed around the kitchen in frenzy, trying to be a master of efficiency. The blenders whirled and the cakes started baking.
In between prepping camera gear, trying to throw makeup on my face, and dancing around the kitchen at a frightening pace, I threw the newly baked cakes in to the freezer to cool, while cutting the old, sagging cake in to salvageable pieces. This cake had a new name- franken-cake. Once the new cake was assembled with two different types of cake, frosted, and semi-decorated- we rushed to the car while I held my breath for the hour and a half drive to the venue location for the wedding. I have never been happier to pass along a cake once we got to Pennsylvania.
Your day was one where dreams are made of
Ash and Oeds, your day was so beautiful. I loved every minute of your wedding- from your magical first look to the part where we had a major cake-war on our hands. You both have such a special bond of love and joy. I’m so happy that I was able to experience it with you. I’m also incredibly happy to announce that the cake make it through the entire day and even made it home to the both of you. Even though there was chaos and mishaps throughout the day, you were both able to hold on to each other and the wonderful team working beside you to make a fantastic wedding day. And that’s what life and marriage is all about. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for the both of you as you continue this journey together.
